现在Osprey的所有人和设计师Mike Pfotenhauer，在1974年开创了 Osprey。他最初的爱好是为自己和朋友制作背包。有人建议制作背包是一项产业。他便开始制造城市背包和徒步背包，在圣克鲁兹的商店出售。当从圣克鲁兹的大学毕业后，他沉醉于制造装备中，听别人说带着他设计的装备去世界各地的高山探险。一定程度上他感到是时候开始大规模生产，并在当地建厂。由于劳动力不足，工厂搬迁到科罗拉多。在科罗拉多生产了大约30年后，有高技能训练有素的工作团队，也渐渐意识到Osprey需要更具有竞争力。Osprey的竞争对手都把制造业务移到了亚洲，因此Osprey也这样做，把整个生产线搬到了越南。在2003-2005年Mike Pfotenhauer在越南仔细检查产品质量，设计新产品，研发填充材料，雇佣高超技艺的背包制造者和设计者，不时地访问工厂确保最高Osprey背包的品质。

在Santa Cruz California从我们刚刚开始制造定制的背包和睡袋，直到我们现在被赞誉为背包界创新设计和质量的领导者。Osprey的飞跃是长时间的，重大的，充满变化的。
今天在Cortez, Colorado我们有18个献身户外的狂热者，这个崎岖的地区位于14,000英尺高的San Juan山脉和大峡谷之间。Osprey办公室在越南胡志明市，由Osprey的拥有者和首席设计师领衔。在源头进行产品设计和质量控制，确保加工质量和保持边缘剪裁冗余减少。
